Why Family Therapy Matters?
Addiction destroys many things – a career, a future, a person’s life – but perhaps one of the most evil things about addiction is that it destroys relationships.
One person’s substance abuse can destroy an entire family, as bridges are burned and things said and done that cause irreparable damage and break hearts. That’s why the family unit plays such a critical role in a person's recovery. Often, friends and family members will enable the individual struggling. Through our family program we emphasize education and awareness of the disease and promote family strength and unity.
Therapeutic Benefits of Equine Therapy
In a safe environment, clients learn to face their fears and build confidence in their ability to overcome challenges. People who are intimidated and nervous at first may be surprised to discover how quickly they can process those feelings and find comfort in their relationship with the horse. Empowered by the experience, people develop the confidence to address other fears and transfer these lessons to day-to-day life.
Clients do not have to love horses or have experience working with animals in order to benefit from equine therapy. They simply have to keep an open mind, trust our highly-trained staff, and be willing to move a bit outside their comfort zone.
Horses are soothing, gentle animals. They are straightforward in their interactions. They never lie or manipulate. They do not judge or blame. Their presence alone can be immensely healing. When combined with our innovative therapies, the experience can be transformative.
Benefits of Therapeutic Recreation
Rocky Mountain Treatment Center places an emphasis on Recreational Therapy throughout treatment. Clients do a variety of activities from sports and regular trips to the gym, to arts and crafts, trips to parks and museums, bowling, karaoke and movies.
Involvement in Recreation Therapy has many benefits, including:
Reducing depression and anxiety.
Improving coping behaviors.
Reducing stress levels.
Increasing self-concept and self-esteem.
Improving social and communication skills.
Reducing self-abusive and inappropriate behaviors.
Holistic Healing in Therapy
We approach addiction treatment by treating the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. During detox your body rids itself of drugs and alcohol, however, being abstinent is not the same as being in recovery. Addiction is a Psychological, Physical, Emotional and Spiritual disease. If the mind and spirit are left untreated, the person is left vulnerable to relapse.

The Importance of Aftercare
Once each client completes treatment and returns home from Rocky Mountain Treatment Center, aftercare, including medical, psychological, spiritual and vocational services, and the love and connection found in mutual support groups, can help them take their first steps back into everyday life.
Support groups consist of people who are in a similar situation to our clients – people who have struggled with substance abuse and may have family issues, financial difficulties, problems at work, and a variety of other stressors. Many people in these groups have been through treatment, and have had years or decades discovering how to live life again, one day at a time, one step at a time. Through sharing experiences, successes and setbacks, the members of a support group build each other up to face each day anew.
