How to “Find” Serenity in Recovery from Drug and Alcohol Addiction

Serenity Now!

I’ve got some good news and I’ve got some bad news. You are in charge of how much serenity you have at any given time. That’s it; both the good news and the bad news.

Serenity and peace sometimes seem like unicorns and dragons, mythical and imaginary, but they are not. They are real and there are things we can do to generate both in abundance. Being in charge of our serenity is only bad news if we have no idea how to manufacture it. As always, if we are not the problem, there is no solution. It is good to know that the reason I don’t have serenity today is the product of what I’m doing and not the product of what others do. If it was due to others, I would be screwed because I don’t control them. Because I have some control over me, I have a fighting chance to change my perceptions and attitudes.

In fact, I can begin the path to serenity right now. I don’t have to wait for anything. It begins when I decide that I no longer want to stew in emotional toxicity. It is just as possible to have serenity now as it is later. Serenity is not a destination but a manner of travel. Serenity is not a thing; it is a way to experience things. It is not solely an end product. The good news is that you can have it as soon as you start doing the things that produce it. Of all the time that God has given us, why not use now as the time to experience God‘s Grace? It is only received in real time. That is how you get serenity now and always.

Thank you
Jim
